Your adventure begins with a pickup from your chosen location in Reykjavík at 9:30 AM. Please note that the pickup process may take up to 30 minutes.
The journey starts in Borgarnes, a charming village rich in Viking history. From there, you’ll visit Gerðuberg, a striking wall of basalt columns, followed by Ytri Tunga, a golden-sand beach renowned for its lively seal colonies.
Next, you’ll explore Búðir, a picturesque hamlet surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The tour continues to Arnarstapi, a quaint fishing village famous for its dramatic stone arch, Gatklettur, where you’ll pause for a delightful lunch break.
Afterward, delve into the mystical Vatnshellir Lava Cave, an 8,000-year-old underground marvel that inspired Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. If you choose not to join the cave tour, you can explore the Malarrif Visitor Center and its iconic lighthouse at no additional cost. Time permitting, you may also visit the rugged Lóndrangar cliffs.
Later, you’ll visit Djúpalónssandur, a black-sand beach scattered with remnants of a 1948 shipwreck. Try your hand at lifting the traditional stones used to test the strength of local fishermen.
The day concludes with check-in at Borgarnes Hotel (or a similar accommodation) for a comfortable night’s rest. If you’re traveling during the winter months (late September to early April) and the conditions are right, you may also have the chance to witness the captivating Northern Lights, a magical display of nature’s beauty.
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before heading to the world-famous Mount Kirkjufell, a photographer’s paradise and a notable filming location from Game of Thrones. Nearby, a charming waterfall adds the perfect touch to this iconic landscape.
Next, stop in the quaint town of Grundarfjörður to grab snacks or necessities, followed by a short break at the local gas station.
Your journey continues to the stunning Hraunfossar Waterfalls, where cascading streams flow over lava fields. Here, you’ll enjoy lunch with breathtaking views of this natural wonder.
The tour then takes you to Reykholt, a site rich in history and once home to the celebrated Icelandic writer and historian Snorri Sturluson, who penned many of the nation’s legendary sagas.
Later, you’ll have the option to unwind at the Krauma Geothermal Baths (additional fee applies), where hot geothermal waters are perfectly blended with cold glacial water for a unique and soothing experience.
If you choose to skip the baths, your adventure includes a visit to Sturlureykir Horse Farm, where you’ll meet friendly Icelandic horses and learn about the farm’s geothermal heating system. You’ll also explore Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring, with its dramatic bubbling water and steamy vistas.
As your adventure winds down, you’ll return to Reykjavík, arriving around 6:05 PM, with memories of Iceland’s incredible landscapes, history, and culture.
